ShiftSnap — Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 1, 2026
ShiftSnap reads your work schedule and sets alarms for your shifts. It is built to keep your data on your iPhone. This policy explains what the app uses, why, and the few cases where anything leaves your phone.
The short version
- No accounts, no sign-in, no ads, no analytics, no tracking. ShiftSnap has no server, and the developer receives none of your data.
- Your schedule, shifts, coworker names, and settings are stored on your device (and in your own iCloud backup, if iCloud is on).
- Scanning a schedule happens entirely on your iPhone. Photos are never uploaded by ShiftSnap.
- AI import is copy and paste. You copy a prompt into an AI chat app of your choice, and paste its answer back. ShiftSnap does not send anything to any AI service.
- Your approximate location is used only for the optional Smart Wake weather check, only while the app is open, and is not stored.
- Deleting the app deletes its data on your device.
What ShiftSnap stores on your device
- Your schedule and shifts (dates, shift types, alarm times).
- Coworker names from scanned schedules or that you add, used for the Team view.
- Your settings (pay period, Smart Wake, Leave-by, and so on).
- Recently scanned schedule photos, kept locally so you can check the app read them correctly.
ShiftSnap does not upload this to any server, and it is never sold or shared.
iCloud backup
If iCloud is turned on for your Apple Account, ShiftSnap saves a backup of your shifts and settings in your own iCloud (Apple’s key-value storage) so they come back after a reinstall or on a new phone. This is stored by Apple under your account and Apple’s privacy policy; the developer cannot see it.
Photos and the camera
- You give ShiftSnap a photo of your posted schedule by scanning it with the camera or choosing a photo or screenshot.
- The schedule is read on your device using Apple’s built-in text recognition. Nothing is sent anywhere.
AI import (optional)
- ShiftSnap can give you a prompt to copy into an AI chat app you choose (for example ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini) along with a photo of your schedule. You then paste the AI’s answer back into ShiftSnap, or share it to ShiftSnap from that app.
- ShiftSnap itself does not send your photo or schedule to any AI service. Whatever you give the AI app is governed by that app’s own privacy policy and terms, not this one. If you’d rather not share a schedule that shows coworkers’ names, use the on-device scan or add your shifts by hand.
Location (optional, Smart Wake)
- If you turn on Smart Wake, ShiftSnap asks for your location only while the app is open, at reduced (approximate, city-level) accuracy.
- Those approximate coordinates are sent to Open‑Meteo (https://open-meteo.com), a free weather service, to get the forecast for your commute. No name, account, or other identifier is sent, and ShiftSnap does not store your location.
- If location is off or unavailable, Smart Wake simply doesn’t suggest a change and your normal alarms stay as set. You approve every suggested change.
Contacts (optional, text a coworker)
- If you tap Message on Who can cover, ShiftSnap may look up that coworker’s phone number in your Contacts so Messages opens with them as the recipient.
- Contacts are read on your device only when you tap Message. ShiftSnap does not upload Contacts or store phone numbers.
Calendar (optional)
- If you use Add my shifts to my calendar, ShiftSnap writes your shift events to your calendar using Apple’s EventKit, and can read its own shift events to keep them in sync. This stays in your calendar; the developer never receives it.
Alarms and notifications
- ShiftSnap sets alarms with Apple’s AlarmKit so they ring through Silent and Focus. iOS manages them on your device.
- Reminder notifications (for example “no alarm set for tomorrow”) are created on your device.
Sharing your schedule
- Share my schedule creates a text summary and a calendar (.ics) file and opens the standard iOS share sheet. You choose who gets them; ShiftSnap does not send them anywhere on its own.
